Role Overview
DataOne is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to spearhead the design, development, and implementation of high-reliability electrical systems in our next-generation AI data centers. This position requires deep technical expertise in mission-critical electrical design—spanning power distribution, UPS, generators, and redundancy strategies—alongside a strong commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. You will collaborate in a cross-functional environment with architects, mechanical engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure our data centers meet both current performance demands and future scalability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical System Design
- Lead the design of robust, fault-tolerant electrical infrastructures tailored for mission-critical data center operations.
- Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and system layouts, ensuring optimal power delivery and minimal downtime.
- Incorporate energy-efficient solutions to align with DataOne’s sustainability targets and operational cost objectives.
Equipment Selection & Specification
- Select and specify key electrical components—such as transformers, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, and distribution panels—prioritizing high availability and maintainability.
- Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate emerging technologies to enhance performance, resilience, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to identify and qualify reliable suppliers that meet stringent technical, environmental, and financial criteria.
Regulatory Compliance & Standards
- Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with IEC, NFPA, and local electrical codes.
- Stay updated on evolving industry standards, implementing changes where necessary to maintain compliance and safety.
- Integrate best practices for critical system resilience, grounding, and bonding per relevant regulatory and industry guidelines.
System Analysis & Modeling
- Perform short-circuit analysis, load flow studies, and arc flash assessments using specialized software such as ETAP or SKM PowerTools.
- Evaluate system performance under various operational conditions, optimizing protective device settings and layout for maximum reliability.
- Proactively identify potential failure points, recommending upgrades or redundancy strategies to mitigate risks.
Utility Coordination & Redundancy
- Coordinate with utility providers to secure reliable power supply contracts, manage interconnection agreements, and plan for capacity expansions.
- Design and implement appropriate levels of redundancy (N, N+1, 2N, etc.) in line with tier-level requirements and business continuity goals.
- Conduct power system load forecasting and recommend strategies for scalable growth, ensuring seamless integration of renewable energy sources where feasible.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with architectural, mechanical, and structural teams to align electrical system design with overall data center layouts and operational constraints.
- Provide technical guidance to project managers, construction teams, and commissioning agents throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in BIM coordination sessions, contributing electrical models and data to integrated design workflows.
Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and as-built drawings.
- Oversee factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for electrical equipment, ensuring delivery meets project and quality standards.
- Contribute to post-project evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives, capturing lessons learned for future data center designs.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering for mission-critical facilities, preferably data centers.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with ETAP or SKM PowerTools for electrical analysis.
Experience using AutoCAD Electrical and Revit (BIM) for design and documentation.
Familiarity with renewable energy systems (solar, wind) and microgrids is a plus. - Soft Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across global, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent is strongly preferred. Additional certifications related to data center design (e.g., Uptime Institute, IEEE) are advantageous.
