Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the design and analysis of advanced AI data center facilities. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and cost-effectiveness of large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with architects, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and construction managers to deliver cohesive, high-quality designs that meet or exceed industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Design & Analysis
- Develop detailed structural designs for data center facilities, including steel, concrete, and composite structures.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis using industry-standard software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro) to evaluate loads, stresses, and potential failure points.
- Ensure designs integrate well with other building systems (HVAC, electrical, fire protection), prioritizing both functionality and resilience.
Technical Documentation & Approvals
- Review and approve technical drawings, specifications, and calculations, guaranteeing accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare structural reports, feasibility studies, and other documentation for client presentations and regulatory submissions.
- Collaborate with BIM teams to produce and maintain accurate AutoCAD/Revit models, managing version control and design revisions.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
- Coordinate closely with architects, mechanical, and electrical engineers to ensure cohesive and efficient structural designs.
- Participate in design review meetings, value engineering sessions, and cross-functional coordination workshops.
- Provide technical insight to project managers, construction teams, and subcontractors, helping resolve issues related to design or materials.
Site Inspections & Construction Support
- Perform regular site visits to verify construction is aligned with approved drawings, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Monitor contractor work, addressing any discrepancies or technical challenges promptly.
- Provide expert guidance during construction phases, ensuring correct interpretation of structural drawings and specifications.
Standards & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all structural designs comply with relevant codes—such as Eurocodes, BS EN standards, or equivalent local regulations—and company guidelines.
- Stay up to date on code updates, emerging structural technologies, and best practices relevant to data center construction.
- Document and implement quality control procedures to maintain the highest design and construction standards.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate and introduce modern construction materials, methods, and technologies (e.g., Tekla Structures for steel detailing) to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of the latest industry trends, potentially integrating them into future projects.
- Identify opportunities to optimize structural design workflows, streamline processes, and reduce costs without compromising quality or safety.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related field).
- Experience: 8+ years in structural engineering, ideally with experience in data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
Proven track record of completing large-scale, complex projects on time and within budget. - Technical Skills: Proficiency in SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro for structural analysis.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and Tekla Structures for steel detailing.
Familiarity with Eurocodes, BS EN standards, or relevant local/regional regulations. - Soft Skills: Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities; excellent communication and team collaboration.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration is highly advantageous. Additional certifications in seismic design or sustainability are a plus.
